THS Counseling Center

COUNSELING AT TOPEKA HIGH

The Counseling program curriculum uses domain counseling, wherein counselors work with ALL students in three specialized developmental domains. The curriculum is offered through large group presentations, classrom presentations and small group guidance activities.

Counselors specialize in one of three domains:
Personal/social counselor
This counselor provides individual and small group activities enabling students to develop personal and social skills.

Academic counselors
Counselors in this domain assist students with all aspects of academic planning and achievement in high school as well as post-secondary educational opportunities.

Career counselor
This counselor provides activities for students to develop self-awareness career decision-making skills and post secondary plans.

In addition to counselors in the above three developmental domains, a Response Counselor responds to the immediate needs in the Counseling Center making referrals as necessary or appropriate. All counselors share this responsibility.
