Penalties for violation of guidelines establish in the AUP could
include the following:
Warning letter to parents and students
Temporary suspension form Internet access
Permanent removal from Internet access
Users who introduce computer virus will be assessed the cost of damages to the
computer or computer application.
The usual or stated District or legal consequences will be in effect for infractions
and violations of District policy or local, state, or federal laws.
*Note: The above list does not necessarily indicate the order of punishment
for violating guidelines. Punishments will be in proportion to the severity
of the violation.
Summary of Internet Guidelines
A summary of the responsibilities of all users of the THSNet follows. Full details
are provided in the Technology Handbook. Users of the THSNet are expected to
understand and abide by the guidelines as described in the full policy.
The following activities on the Internet are prohibited by Topeka High School.
Language which is defamatory, obscene, abusive, profane, threatening or
discriminatory.
Accessing e-mail during class hours. Students MAY
check emails before and after school and during lunch (if the computers are
not being used by classes for research.)
Using the network in a way that disrupts the user
of the network by others. This includes, but is not limited to, junk mail, chain
letters, etc.
Accessing or transmitting obscene, pornographic,
or offensive material.
Revealing personal information (name, address, etc.)
of your own or anyone else.
Participating in on-line, interactive games on the
Internet.
Transferring or redistributing material that is
not your own without the expressed written permission of the owner or authorized
person.
Using the THSNet to promote of encourage illegal
activities.
Using the THSNet to promote or encourage activities
specifically prohibited by TPS.
Transmitting material, information, or software
in violation of any local, state or federal law.
Hacking or gaining unauthorized access to restricted
networks.
Reading or damaging others' data by deleting, copying
or modifying.
Sharing user ID's, assuming the identity of someone
else, or misrepresenting one's self.
Destroying, modifying or abusing the hardware and
software of the network.
Using the network for any product advertisement,
political lobbying, or commercial purposes.
Using the Internet in a way that does not support
education and research that is consistent with the educational objectives of
THS
Printing documents without teacher/librarian permission.
Downloading and saving documents without teacher/librarian
permission.
Notify the teacher (not your peers) of any problems encountered when using the
Internet such as vandalism, breach or copyright, breach of password, or general
operating errors.
