The Varsity bowlers went to Kansas City on Saturday for the Bishop Miege Invitational, and we brought home some hardware!
There were 12 teams present, and our Varsity Girls took 1st place overall, beating in-town rival Topeka West who came in second place. The girls were led by Junior Carley Sullivan, who took 3rd overall (out of 72 girls!), as well as seniors Mollie Miller (4th place) and Nicole Gentry (7th place).
The boys bowled their best 3 game series in my short 1.5 year coaching tenure, and came in tied for 4th place, only finishing 5 pins back of 3rd place. The boys were led by Seniors Domingo Martinez (7th place out of 72), Caleb Gosselin (10th out of 72), and Junior Seth Campbell (14th place).

The bowling season got off to a rousing start with a 2 day tournament in Lawrence this past weekend. Friday was the boys day, and our Varsity boys finished 13th out of 16 teams. This might not sound like a great accomplishment, but last year we finished 12th out of 12 in the same tournament, so this year we beat some people! The JV boys then put in a great performance, finishing 9th out of 16 teams, despite only bowling with 4 bowlers instead of the customary 6.
Saturday was the girls day. The JV girls qualified 4th out of 14 teams, and then lost a tough 2 out of 3 game head to head match up with Washburn Rural.
The Varsity Girls qualified 5th out of 16 teams. Then we swept 4th seeded Washburn Rural in the quarterfinals, won 2 out of 3 against 1st seeded Topeka West in the semifinals, and swept 2nd seeded Lawrence High to WIN THE TOURNAMENT!
Carley Sullivan, Mollie Miller, Nicole Gentry, Jillian Murphy, Adele Coultis, and Rana Riley represented the Varsity girls on this day, and they did a fantastic job of performing under pressure. Every time they needed to make a shot, they made it, and most importantly they had tons of fun and were fantastic representatives of Topeka High. If you see any of the bowlers, but especially those 6 varsity ladies, please tell them congratulations! Thanks!
